Though the translation was never finished, it was still made available to the creative public. When RPG Maker 95 came out, people started to discover and want more amateur game creation tools, so an attempt was made to bring over Sim RPG Maker.
A full translation has been released by the Intrenchant team. While the original translation team except one has left the project, most translation are either edits of there’s or the Italian translation by the guys at rpgmaker. Sadly due to the falling of ENBAN everything was loss, but HITPOINTS has tried to support the maker with releasing RPG MAGAZINE. Released on Jdeveloped by DWANGO and ASCII and maintained by ENBAN, the first of the new ASCII DCP division. *Take Note! This will be available again soon!
This limit however is rarely a problem (normally 5000), and even when it is, an unofficial patch exists which can bump most limits much higher at the risk of potential game corruption.
However, because tiles must be entered into a database, there is a limit on tiles. The tilesets also have a similar non-limitation. Unlike RM95, which can only use one ‘set’, RM2k can use an unlimited number of sprite sheets with specific sizes for each type. However, it does not have a noticeable limit of ‘sprites’. While it is possible to do more with RM2k, it uses lower resolution sprites and tiles than RPG Maker 95.
RPG Maker 2000 (also called RM2k) was the second release of RPG Maker for Microsoft Windows and is the most popular and used RPG Maker so far. This was the first version made by Enterbrain, which had previously been a part of ASCII. The main difference is the introduction of a side-view battle system similar to that found in Final Fantasy games on the Super Nintendo. RM2k games can be ported to RM2k3 (but not back to RM2k, the conversion is permanent), and most resources are interchangeable. RPG Maker 2003 (also referred to as RM2k3, and sometimes RM2k/3) is largely an improvement of RM2k.
Like the previous RMs, RMXP comes with a large package of graphics, music, and sounds (known as the Run Time Package, or RTP) that can be used to create a complete RPG, including flexible tiled graphics to create beautiful maps and characters to represent NPCs, heroes, and monsters. RMXP also doubled the screen resolution of the previous two makers, creating a graphical experience closer to the end of the SNES era or the dawn of the PSX era. The sky is almost literally the limit, if one has the patience to learn Ruby or can find a script to suit their needs already made. With the introduction of scripting, nearly anything becomes possible, including tactical RPGs, isometric RPGs, and even online RPGs. Other experienced users, known colloquially as “scripters,” have provided a vast library of RMXP compatible scripts that can be used to do everything from add a little eye candy to completely revamp the battle system. Experienced users can use and modify the Ruby classes provided, called RGSS, to fully customize their games. RMXP uses the Ruby scripting language – a complete and growing language with a large library of predefined classes – to define how the game looks and behaves.
This was the first installment in the RPG Maker series to introduce the concept of scripting.
Like the previous RPG Makers, RMXP provides a user-friendly interface to create a complete role playing game with little to no programming knowledge and a relatively low learning curve for the program itself.
RPG Maker XP (RMXP) is the fourth PC installment in the popular RPG Maker series, and the first to receive an official English release. The RGSS2 feature puts RMVX on a more customizable level that has never been reached before by any other maker in the series. The new features of this system allow you to go beyond the basic functions of the engine by changing any feature want such as, the battle system, game play menu, and much more. The scripting feature from RMVX’s predecessor returns in the name of Ruby Game Scripting System 2 (RGSS2), which has been tailored and upgraded specifically for RPG Maker VX. RPG Maker VX comes with new, interesting features the ability to instantly create events for chests, doors, inns, and so on, the random dungeon generator, increased 60 frames per second, and much more! RPG Maker VX, like other makers in the series, comes packed with a large, whole set of default audio and graphic resources (Run Time Package, or RTP) all ready for use, allowing beginners to create beautiful maps and scenes.
Using the “database” and “event” system, it allows even beginners to create a fully functional role-playing game with absolutely no programming knowledge. Like the previous RPG Makers, RPG Maker VX features an enhanced user-friendly graphical interface and a powerful set of features. RPG Maker VX is the fifth installment in the PC RPG Maker series, followed by RPG Maker XP.
